Our commitment

Mentoring brings people together, and many mentoring relationships involve children, young people and adults who may be at risk. National Mentoring Day believes everyone has the right to be safe from harm, abuse and neglect, and that the safety and wellbeing of mentees always comes first.

We are committed to:

  • keeping safe everyone who takes part in our activities, events and online spaces;
  • making sure anyone who works or volunteers with us in activities involving children or adults at risk has appropriate checks, training and supervision;
  • responding promptly and properly to every concern, and sharing information with the right authorities when someone may be at risk;
  • promoting good safeguarding practice across mentoring - safeguarding is a required part of the National Mentoring Standards, and accreditation can be withdrawn where there are serious concerns.

Our website and online activity

  • Our website and online services are intended for adults and organisations. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
  • Photos of anyone under 18 must only be sent to us with the permission of their parent or guardian. We will remove any photo if asked, or if we have any concern about it.
  • We never publish the contact details or exact location of anyone shown in a photo.

How to report a concern

If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child or adult in connection with National Mentoring Day, our events, our website or a programme accredited under the National Mentoring Standards, please tell us straight away by emailing our safeguarding lead at chelsey@nationalmentoringday.org. We will treat it seriously and confidentially.

If your concern is about a mentoring programme run by another organisation, please also report it to that organisation's safeguarding lead.
